Using a visual interface, users can select the SAP OData services, entities, and fields required for a report, apply row-level filters, and preview the results before connecting the data source to Power BI. Multiple SAP services can be included in one reusable data source and delivered to Power BI as separate tables. This helps teams create reporting for areas such as finance, sales, procurement, and operations while limiting each dataset to the information it actually needs.

Power BI Connector for SAP runs in the organization’s SAP Business Technology Platform environment and uses read-only access. SAP remains the system of record, with no write-back and no separate staging platform required. Personal access tokens, controlled data source sharing, and audit logs help administrators manage access and trace configuration changes, token activity, and Power BI exports.

Scheduled and incremental refresh support helps keep large Power BI datasets current without reloading the complete dataset every time. SAML authentication and separate production and non-production environments are also available for enterprise deployments.
