> Layar is digital signage software for businesses in Malaysia that already own a TV and want it to do something useful.

Who it is for. Independent shops, cafes and kopitiams, clinics, salons, gyms, pharmacies and small offices, typically running one to ten screens with nobody technical on staff. Also malls and office buildings that need an interactive tenant directory.

How it works. Connect a screen with a pairing code, build a playlist from images, videos or a Canva export, and publish. Content is stored on the player itself, so the screen keeps running when the internet drops. A connection is only needed to receive changes, not to keep playing.

Scheduling is what makes a screen feel automatic: a breakfast menu until 11:30, a set lunch after that, a teatime promo at 3, switching by itself. Screen power schedules turn the display on and off so it is not running overnight for nobody.

What is different about it. Built for this market rather than translated into it. Prayer time widgets pull official Jakim zone times and change daily without anyone editing a slide. Prices are set in Malaysian ringgit, not converted from US dollars. The interface is available in English and Bahasa Melayu.

Screen health monitoring is included on the paid tiers rather than sold as an upsell. If a screen goes offline, Layar can send a WhatsApp message. A screen that is dark without you knowing is the most expensive failure in signage, because you believe your promotion is running when it is not.

Players run on Windows mini PCs and on Android, including inexpensive Android TV sticks and Android-based displays, so hardware can be bought from any supplier. There is no proprietary media box to buy.

Support. Email, WhatsApp and in-app help, with documentation and a guided setup flow inside the product. Support is handled in English and Bahasa Melayu.

- **Pricing Details**: Pricing is per screen, per month. There is no platform fee and no setup fee, so a second screen costs the same as the first rather than pushing you into a new package.

One screen is free forever, with no credit card. It includes 250MB of storage and carries a small Layar watermark on playback. It is a real plan, not a trial, and it is enough to run a single menu board or notice board indefinitely.

Solo removes the watermark on one screen. Starter adds time-of-day scheduling, widgets such as prayer times and weather, and the drag and drop design canvas, for up to ten screens. Pro adds analytics, proof of play, WhatsApp offline alerts and unlimited screens.

Billing is monthly or annual. Annual includes two months free. Annual plans can also be invoiced for bank transfer rather than card, which suits many Malaysian SMEs that do not put subscriptions on a company card.

Customers in Malaysia are billed in Malaysian ringgit at RM15, RM29 and RM55 per screen per month, and are not exposed to exchange rate movement. The US dollar figures shown here are the equivalent international rates.

Running more than 20 screens, or a mall or campus deployment with wayfinding, is quoted separately. Hardware is not sold with the software: the players run on ordinary Windows mini PCs and Android devices bought from any supplier.
