## Reviews

### "A solid product only limited by your imagination" — 4.0/5

> **Allison** | *4 May 2026* | Government Relations | Recommendation rating: 8.0/10
>
> **Pros**: The system is used by many institutions so courses are transferable. It is logical to use,not always easy though. Course creation can be done by most computer literate people and compared to other LMS', they have commented that Moodle is practical, interactive, and easier to use. As an administration it is good to have the service support just an email away.
>
> **Cons**: The system is large so all features are not fully used and unless you are dedicated Admin manager of your system, many of the Admin features can be difficult to fully understand. The activities do not present as sexy as they do in other platforms. The Community is hard to search and rarely do I find answers.
>
> I like Moodle, I like the support, I just don't like the fact that my particular site is not aesthetically pleasing and we lack after course interaction, I lack the knowledge and imagination to improve it and I don't know where to find the inspiration.

### "Solid architecture and managed learning, but with severe operational and integration constraints in the long term." — 5.0/5

> **Carlos Guillermo** | *4 May 2026* | Education Management | Recommendation rating: 7.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Personalized Learning Designer (PLD): The capability to automate workflows via conditional rules is solid. However, it presents operational difficulties during course content restoration processes; when restoring a course into a new target environment, the new course frequently struggles to maintain the optimal functionality and execution of these inherited rules.
>
> **Cons**: 1. Closed Architecture and Integration Friction: Being a highly managed and closed environment, there is a severe backend lockout. There is an inability to perform advanced SQL queries, and when utilizing the ad-hoc reporting module, query execution is sluggish and prone to crashing. Furthermore, delayed-execution reports take an excessive amount of time to generate. Additionally, obtaining robust reporting capabilities requires licensing third-party products at exorbitant costs, often rivaling the core Open LMS licensing fees themselves, rather than providing a native advanced reporting system commensurate with its high pricing tier.

2. Rigidity in Plugin Deployment: The process of incorporating plugins is highly cost-inefficient, as clients are forced to pay for the adaptation of any plugin not already included in their proprietary matrix to ensure compatibility with Open LMS. This directly conflicts with the open-source philosophy of Moodle, which boasts over 2,000 free plugins. It is structurally paradoxical to incur development costs to deploy a plugin that is natively free in standard Moodle environments.

3. Asymmetrical Active User Cost Structure: The pricing model based on active users is disproportionately expensive, as clients inevitably pay for the retention of historical data used strictly for reporting purposes. It is fundamentally illogical to incur the same licensing fee for an alumnus whose data has been dormant for a decade as for a highly active, concurrent user interacting with the platform daily.
>
> My overall experience following an extended customer lifecycle has been a dichotomy between operational excellence and technological restriction. For years, Open LMS functioned as a flawless learning management engine; its open-source-based core, optimized for cloud architecture, eliminates the friction of server administration and delivers uninterrupted availability, fully justifying its deployment in critical institutional environments. Instructional design tools, such as the PLD, are top-tier for facilitating teacher-student interaction.

However, a comprehensive long-term evaluation reveals a distinct technical glass ceiling. As institutional requirements evolve toward advanced data science, the integration of external artificial intelligence models, or the imperative for absolute technological sovereignty over database architectures, the 'sandbox' nature of Open LMS becomes a severe operational bottleneck. The bureaucratic friction required to enable specific extensions and the incremental cost model ultimately lead to technological stagnation. It remains an exceptional product for organizations that prioritize total infrastructure delegation, but it is highly restrictive for institutions demanding architectural flexibility, deep process auditing, and contractual independence over their proprietary information ecosystems.

### "OpenLMS Moodle honest review" — 5.0/5

> **Korab** | *11 June 2026* | Education Management | Recommendation rating: 8.0/10
>
> **Pros**: The OpenLMS team is supportive and helpful when you need them. The platform works well, but it has many settings, so at times you need to contact support and ask for help. They are always helpful.
Moodle can do better in the design part to match other LMS's, but with each update, there are some improvements. It is a cheaper platform, and instructors can do all the tasks they need to teach courses. It is good that it's an open-source LMS, so many users can contribute to making Moodle better. OpenLMS carefully adds those features to our Moodle.
>
> **Cons**: The amount of time it takes to fix some bugs. Depending on the importance, it can take a couple of updates for a bug to get fixed.
>
> As I listed in the pros, the OpenLMS team is supportive when needed, proactive about cybersecurity, and regularly releases updates. Great experience working with them\!

### "Leave well-enough alone and focus instead on needed improvements" — 4.0/5

> **Kirsten** | *5 May 2026* | E-Learning | Recommendation rating: 8.0/10
>
> **Pros**: I appreciate
--the helpful staff
--the fact that it is reliable
--it's Moodle
--we don't need to worry about it
--the site is functional
>
> **Cons**: Things we dislike
--the theme (and lack of theme choices)
--unnecessary changes, especially when other aspects need more attention
--the updates often make the system less usable and user-friendly instead of more usable and user-friendly

### "Interacción de estudiantes e docentes" — 5.0/5

> **Anonymous User** | *17 July 2025* | Education Management | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Sus opciones de Aprendizaje personalizado, en el tema de integraciones y otros funcionalidades que complementan al moodle nativo.
>
> **Cons**: En su inicio el tema de tener una matriz de plugin permitidos, no poder agregar mas temas de sitio, formatos de cursos y otros plugin.
>
> Muy buena, en mi caso a nivel de administrador de sitio, es una plataforma bien trabajada y que ofrecen cambios constantemente.
