About Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a cloud-based group chat solution that helps teams collaborate on documents. Its key features include messaging, conferencing and file sharing. Microsoft Teams has replaced Skype for Business as Microsoft's online meeting solution. The solution helps users store files online, manage documents, create groups and receive notifications. It is customizable for each team and users can communicate through instant messaging, online meetings, calling and web conferencing. The collaboration tool can be used to work on files within Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Sharepoint. Additional features include open application processing interface, assistant bots, conversation search, contact search, and multi-factor authentication. Microsoft Teams integrates with third-party applications such as GitHub, Microsoft Office, Power BI, Delve, Planner, Trello and more. The application is available on a one-time subscription and support is available via phone and online help desk.

Great for Teamwork, but Takes Some Getting Used To

My overall experience with Microsoft Teams has been quite good. The platform is really excellent in bringing all the principal tools for collaboration—whether it be chat, video conferencing, or document sharing—under one roof. This has made working in a team much easier, more so when working remotely. I will appreciate how Teams accommodated structured and informal communication, where it was easy to move from scheduled meetings to quick chats without leaving the platform. Although I appreciate most of its inclusive features, there have been moments when I felt that the interface was cluttered and that learning how to make one's way around the options takes time. Beyond these minor difficulties, Teams took productivity and communication in my team to a different level, making it a platform where everyone logs in daily for collaboration.

Pros

What I like most about Microsoft Teams is the seamless way in which it can be integrated with the entire Microsoft 365 suite. This helps in collaborating on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations super easily right within the platform. Having all your tools—chats, video calls, sharing of files—all in one place reduces the switching time from one app to another, hence saving time and making the workflow more efficient. Aside from that, the versatility of supporting scheduled meetings and impromptu conversations can serve different working styles, whether it's a formal project discussion or a quick informal check-in with somebody. Another key differentiator is its reliable video and audio quality, even in large meetings, further refining the remote collaboration experience.

Cons

What I like least about Microsoft Teams is that sometimes it feels quite overwhelming, be it a new user or someone not so much into technology. Though powerful with as many features and options as it comes, it creates a pretty steep learning curve and sometimes may confuse people where certain tools or settings are located. Moreover, the platform can be a bit resource-intensive; on older devices, or when many resource-demanding applications are working, it might cause occasional slowdowns or lag. By and large, performing well, these minor misbehaviours are inclined to disturb the smooth experience slightly.

Teams: connecting y’all

We extensively use teams for classes and meetings. Overall, it takes time to familiarize but once you know, you’ll like it.

Pros

Very intuitive, easy to share screen, adding and accepting participants are easy

Cons

After opening the meeting, I can’t see my chat groups so easily. That means if I click teams icon from the menu, it continuously show me the meeting but not the teams app itself. I felt that made me confused all the time.

Another part, screen sharing in 2 display monitors. We have to make sure what screen we are sharing. Instead, it would be nicer if to have pop messages like you are sharing screen 1 or screen 2 or you are screen sharing.

Also, opening teams app takes long time.

Teams: One Program to Rule Them All

I am an administrator and also work within it to manage my department's daily activities, chats, project management.

Pros

I like how much capability the program offers. The features offered give you the ability to excel in team collaboration, communication, management and so much more, instead of needing multiple other programs that do the same thing.

Cons

It has some limitations of using other microsoft programs like excel and PowerPoint as stand alone programs since their features work best that way, but Teams gets you mostly there.

Microsoft Teams For Schools

Pros

I like Microsoft Teams for the collaborative environments created using the platform. It is a helpful way to keep our organization’s communication consistent. We are able to share resources all in one place. For our students, it is a great space to create and grade assignments, practice digital literacy, and a one-stop-shop for resources and links.

Cons

I, personally, like the “friendliness” of Google Classroom over teams for using with my younger elementary students. If there was a way to adapt the overall environment to be more child-friendly, I would be more inclined to using it with my younger students. However, with adults, it has been an extremely helpful resource to use.
