About WordPress

WordPress is an open-source, cloud-based content management system based on PHP and MySQL that helps small to large businesses create, manage and publish content for websites. Features of WordPress include a content manager, a drag-and-drop interface, templates, dynamic page generation, password protection, multi-page posts, previewing and publishing. It comes with a drag-and-drop file uploader and media browser, which allows users to upload and store pictures, music, videos, documents and more. Additionally, it provides auto-saving and restoring functionalities for businesses to automatically save and restore crucial data in case of a system crash. WordPress comes with an application programming interface (API), which enables developers to customize as well as connect plugins with the solution. Pricing is available as per business requirements and support is extended via forums, FAQs and other online measures.

Great for blogging and experts

I've been happy with WordPress as a blog platform, but the use of plug-ins and need of technical knowledge doesn't make it very beginner friendly.

Pros

I have used WordPress mainly for creating a blog and a website, and it serves well in that. The free version got so many limitations, and as i wanted to have my own domain name, i chose the smallest possible package as service. There's enough of storage for my need, and the site has been available constantly, no loading issues. Service is very flexible, and you can create almost any kind of website using WordPress.

Cons

My biggest con is the need of technical skills. In case you want to get something fancy or specific thing on your site, you need to find a proper plug-in. And there are all too many of them! And i have started my first website at the time it was all built up from a scratch, by writing code! And I still find it too difficult to find all the details, and create exactly I want.

Great for Web Pros, Not Great for Sole Proprietor

I work mainly with self-employed individuals and small businesses that do not have an in-house web design team. Because of this, I usually do not recommend WordPress to my clients. For the everyday business owner trying to edit their own website, WordPress can be overwhelming & very difficult to navigate.

Pros

It offers the ability to completely customize and have full control over every aspect & function of your website. You can easily manage SEO. Great for web design professionals and businesses with an in-house web design team.

Cons

It is difficult for anyone who does not have web design experience to use. It can be easily hacked if you do not properly secure your site.

It changed the ways we work on websites and it's still not dead!

I suggest to use Wordpress to all my clients, given that it's also easy to work on it even when different webdesigners and agencies initiate the work anf then for some reason the business relationship changes. It's also easy for me as a non-dev to edit and manage content, integrate other tools and optimize the website for PPC and SEO campaigns.

Pros

Wordpress is flexible and allows to build websites of any type, from the most simple to the more complex.

Cons

Begin so open and flexibile comes with a lot of complication that build up as the website grows, allowing for slowing down and cybersecurity threats

Alternatives Considered

Wix, Builderall and Shopify

Reasons for Switching to WordPress

On WordPress you are the owner of your site, even using paid plugins you can always find alternative and/or hire a dev that can customize them or make them for you on other platforms the company owns everything the moment you don't pay you are out.

The best website platform

Brilliant! I use it with Elementor which allows me to create websites with a drag and drop page builder. There’s a plugin for just about everything so it’s a great option if you know you’ll be expanding one day and want to make sure you’ll have the option to integrate new features.

Pros

It’s so versatile. There’s literally nothing you can’t do on the platform with a plugin and some code. It’s definitely the the most popular web platform for a reason.

Cons

It can be a bit overwhelming if you’re not much of a techie person. And you really need to be on it with keeping the site updated .
