Spot On Restaurant

Pros

The customer service is top notch. Every time I call in, whoever is on the other line is always ready and eager to answer any questions I may have. They also provide useful input on strategy with how to create a button, modifier or how to implement an idea I have in my head and put it to use via our POS.

Cons

The keyboard is the only negative thing with SpotOn. It's a funny joke amongst our staff at how awesome the system is top to bottom but the keyboard is the only part of SpotOn restaurant we don't understand.

Alternatives Considered

Toast POS

Reasons for Choosing SpotOn

More inexpensive option during COVID and much better processing rates.

[SENSITIVE CONTENT] was fantastic when it came to explaining why we needed SpotOn vs. other products. He was never pushy and had the answers to the questions we had, and when he didn't, he would tell us he didn't know, which we appreciated more than always having the answer. [SENSITIVE CONTENT] would find the answer and make sure to explain it in a way us restaurant people could understand.

Response from SpotOn

Thanks for the feedback! We're sorry to hear about the keyboard--send us an email at [email protected] and we can look into troubleshooting that for you!

I definitely recommend SpotOn

Great reps, someone’s always nearby to help, very versatile. Overall I’ve enjoyed it and it works well with our restaurant amenities - happy hour, private parties, etc.

Pros

Very user friendly for staff. Pretty user friendly for back of house. Tech support and (especially [sensitive content hidden]) are very responsive and helpful.

I also appreciate how everything is intertwined if you go with the whole package - POS, Reserve, & Teamwork.

Cons

Had black out issues and the entire POS deleted itself before dinner service one day, but it was back up and running pretty quickly.

I also wish there was a way to add more than one button at a time to the menu screens list at the bottom of each screen. Very time consuming to set up, but once it’s done it’s done.

Alternatives Considered

Aloha EPOS and Toast POS

Reasons for Switching to SpotOn

Full package availability that integrates rather than a bunch of different apps

SpotOn misled me while I had a decent service for a few months with what was then transparent...

SpotOn advertised to me stellar rates, low fees, and a free machine, so I signed up to process cards with my business. Everything went well for a few months until I looked at my bank statement and saw that they started charging me more for the same program. Nothing changed on my end and my revenue stayed consistent. It took me a while to get in touch with someone to discuss and eventually cancel. They did not make me pay any penalties but nobody could provide me a valid reason as to why I had to pay more every single month without mention. I cancelled. Bad end experience overall.

Pros

SpotOn does provide a competitive price for CC processing and POS systems included. They advocate cash discount pricing to eliminate credit card fees. They have multiple support lines. Month to month agreement no penalties for exiting.

Cons

SpotOn increased my monthly fee rate without telling me. I had a $25/month POS system usage fee with a free Pax A920 Pro to use. Over time without mention, it went to $40 and then $50. I could not have anybody explain to me what happened. Not a fan of misleading pricing and undercuts. I cancelled.

Alternatives Considered

Square Payments and Stripe

Reasons for Switching to SpotOn

The price was cheaper and there were less fees overall than both

Response from SpotOn

We're sorry to hear you had a negative experience. We are committed to price transparency and wish we had the opportunity to make this right. Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback.

Pretty Good

Pros

I love how clean & simple this POS is. I like the layout, and the reporting aspect is great. I love the dual-pricing. I like that they offer a cellular backup incase of an internet problem. Building menu's and adding items is easy. I love all the different printer options, taxing etc. You can get pretty specific. I love the permission's based job positions.

Cons

It's not meant for pizza places. The customer info is hard, I wish the phone number name and address would automatically pop up.
I don't like when it goes down. I don't like that there's three different websites (BOH, reporting, Dashboard) and then another if you get gift cards (through ECS.)

Response from SpotOn

Thank you for this thorough feedback and review. We are excited to report that we're busy streamlining those three websites to get you an easier user experience!

The best POS system I've ever used

The software is great, but the best part is the customer support! Real people that care about your business built your menu for you, do extensive menu reviews until it's 99% perfect, and then come install it and stay with you the whole first day! When you need manager or back-of-house training, they will dedicate hours to you to make sure you understand everything you need to know. And there's all kinds of cool bonuses, like the reporting app, manager app, and even social media review management!

Pros

I love that SpotOn is so intuitive and easy to use. The extensive reports are extremely helpful to gain valuable insight into your business, it comes with online ordering built-in (so you don't have to pay a 3rd party) and you can run multiple restaurants from one back office. Cloud-based means you can do all paperwork from anywhere, and the back office is extremely easy to navigate.

Cons

That more restaurants don't use it! It's annoying when I'm eating at a restaurant and it takes my waiter so long to put in orders, print checks, etc. I see them struggling and I want to go install SpotOn myself right then!

Alternatives Considered

Aloha EPOS, Clover, Revel Systems, Toast POS and POSitouch

Reasons for Choosing SpotOn

I've actually tried many different POS systems in my career in the restaurant industry, and SpotOn is the only one I would recommend to restaurant owners. The staff loves it, the managers love it, and the owners love it because it helps the have happy staff, become more profitable and save everyone a tremendous amount of time!

Switched From

Aloha EPOS

Reasons for Switching to SpotOn

None of these other systems have anywhere close to the level of support as SpotOn. I used to have nightmares about calling support for Aloha, Clover, etc, but now I actually enjoy calling support! A human at their call center in Detroit picks up immediately! Plus, you can tell that SpotOn was built exclusively for restaurants, unlike many others that are credit card companies first.

SpotOn Delivers Peace of Mind and Profitability

Pros

Top on our list of what we like most about the SpotOn software is the ability to customize the screens and the reports to fit our needs. The ability to log in from anywhere and make changes on the go is also one of the most helpful and impactful features. The reports are easy to interpret and share. Staff timekeeping and payroll is a breeze. Our staff love the ease of the screens and how easy it is to modify items add new items or create events.

Cons

We are very pleased with this software. We have recently began using the handheld tablets and our only complaint with those was not having the ability to start a tab. However, SpotOn contacted us and said this feature was going to be implemented and asked if we would like to be part of the Beta testing for that feature. So far it is going great and we appreciate that they listen to the users and are always looking to add helpful features and updates.

after the learning curve it's been really amazing.

Pros

While so many POS systems may not be so super different, where SpotOn doesn't even compare is the customer service. The phone reps, email tech rep, local rep who we can see in person and have a working relationship with, it's all amazing. While so many onboarding now adays is a zoom call with a very uninterested rep or just instructions on PDF, SpotOn really makes you feel they care.

Cons

the slowness of the handheld, the way it rolls over screens makes some of us dizzy because the way it moves, and also there are some steps in handheld that we feel can be cutout. the desktop works great, but it's too bulky. we really want the desktop version on iPad. It's web base so we are puzzled to why that hasn't happened yet.

Pros

Watch out for the sales rep - he promises you the moon in the sky and all these things and then you turn around and get the system and then charge you an nickel and dime you to death and pull money out of your account when they shouldn’t I’m still waiting for product and training. I would like to like this system but it is not complete yet

Cons

Pros

A Bit of a Roller Coaster

I was really excited to get information about SpotOn, especially since I knew the sales rep personally. After many conversations, my company finally gave the green light, but that's when some of the wheels started to come off. Communication was greatly lacking about next steps and what we could expect or needed to do on our side. There wasn't a confirmation of what equipment I needed, and we weren't set up to run different revenue centers like I had requested, so we're still not up and running where we need to be. Implementation and installation team have been great, very helpful, we're just not getting the support and guidance we had expected, and feel a little left in the dark.

Pros

It's not an app in the way that Square is, and the handheld devices don't have to rely on wi-fi, it's also fairly user-friendly
Implementation and Installation teams have been great

Cons

Once we got the new system approved, we felt a bit ghosted by our rep. I am still waiting on the rest of my equipment, and still waiting for the rest of my organization to get properly set up and haven't received any follow ups.

Response from SpotOn

Hi Pamela, I want to connect you with someone internally who can give you the support you need and deserve. Would you mind replying directly to me so I can facilitate that? Thank you for your review.
