Couldn't do without Square
Overall I really can not complain as it provides a simple to use, valuable tool for both small and larger businesses alike
Pros
As a small business owner Square is a fabulous tool to be able to take credit card payments, create invoices, and so much more. I honestly don't know what I'd do without it.
Cons
Sometimes, especially when using the desktop (I'm primarily on the app on my phone) it's harder to find things as it doesn't seem to be set up quite the same as the app.

Square has potential to be great
Square POS is actually a little complex to build out of you dont have a background in software or IT. For our coffee shops we use alot of modifiers and variations, so it is difficult to sink up the modifiers with the optons if you are building out for the first time. If you are a business without the modifiers it will be much easier.
Pros
Square POS does exactly what any POS system should do. You upload your items for sale, and you can take payments on your phone, your square reader, or ipad.
Cons
Square Outages are the absolute worst and they are more frequent than anything. they have put my business at a stand still at least once per quarter. We have had to switch to "off line" mode which also wasnt working. We are a coffee shop and most of our sales are from 7am-9am. We have lost so much money from the outages and good luck getting anyone from customer service. It's non-existent. PLUS the fees you pay are astronomical.
Reasons for Switching to Square Point of Sale
We chose square because we use apple products and didnt want to have to buy new hardware. In hindsight we probably have lost more money in outages than new hardward would have cost us. We also now have all of our data from the last few years in Square so its hard to switch.Top Square Point of Sale Alternatives

Square, the best app for sales!
My overall experience has been great! I can write up an invoice in minutes with my saved items and I can collect a deposit in seconds with tap to pay or via emailing the customer. It’s a very easy process for the customer to pay when sent via email. I can schedule out when the final payment is due for a repair and it’s saved in their system if I ever need to look back at the invoice.
Pros
That you can use tap to pay, and the processing fees are fair.
Cons
There’s not much to dislike about square. Sometimes invoicing won’t have your description saved, but doesn’t happen often.

Faulty equipment
Terrible and would never recommend. Extremely hard to receive immediate help from a knowledgeable representative.
Pros
Loved it when it worked . But I kept having to replace hardware.
Cons
Poor quality equipment and extremely hard to reach for a qualified person to answer queries. When you call you get a person who has to keep putting you on hold to get an answer and then after taking up over 1/2 hour of your time you have gotten v
nowhere! Extremely frustrating.

Big fan of Square
We used them for taking sales on a major music tour this summer. It helped us greatly that the terminals are simple to programme and use. Really happy overall.
Pros
Such a simple and smart system to use. I love that you can tap a payment card on a terminal to bring up all previous transactions.
Cons
Nothing in particular. It is probably the best system I’ve used on the market.

Great platform
My overall experience is good, the system is easy to use and there are so many systems and interfaces
Pros
Everything all in one space and a easy to use interface
Cons
Sometimes they do random checks which means temporary Ban to withdrawing money and also the fees are on the high side

My only POS
Overall I enjoy using Squares point of sale when taking payments from customers. It is user friendly and customers love it.
Pros
I love being able to take electronic payments when I am at events selling my work.
Cons
Sometimes the POS is delayed when there is not a good connection. I would love for it to still work as great in an offline mode outside of typing customers' information.

Square is easy to deploy, and makes POS a breeze.
I am happy with Square POS. And I recommend it for any mobile consumer services company. Ease of use, set up and customer service is great!
Pros
Easy set up. The set up tools were not distracting, had a way to see where you are in the process, so you don't miss anything.
Ease of deployment. My employees are of varying ages and tech experience. This product was easy to teach to my users.
Clients know the name Square. They trust their information is secure. They are also impressed with the NPC ability to tap to pay with our phones.
Cons
The readers may not be necessary. I thought at the time of setup that I needed 5 readers, so I could have saved myself an initial investment. We are a fully mobile company, so our POS is on our phones. The NPC capability makes the (occasionally glitchy) readers obsolete.

Easy to train and use for high volume
We have used square in a high volume music venue for shows and events. We have also used square and the square team for high volume music festivals. We can implement this for the box office as well as the bar sales, while pulling live reports to see how inventory is moving and track sales trends throughout the event.
Pros
I like how intuitive it is for any new user. Having multiple screens easily navigable is helpful in high volume bar sales.
Cons
Setting up new items and inputting them into a proper category can be lengthy to keep them organized and not having too many "type" of items. If you do not do this process 100% in the first step then your inventory will get out of control very fast.

Really good solution, payments and backoffice
The overall experience is very good. I manage moe than 8 locations with bothe in person and online sales easily from the same dashboard.
Things just work.
Pros
That it is an all-in-one solution. It covers your whole business (with some caveats) but if you have a retails store it's all that you need.
For restaurants they're missing some features, but working on them.
Cons
That you can clearly tell it's built for retail. If you're a restaurant user some things don't work out.
Also the online store, they need to put that thing on a diet.

Square Point of Sale helps you manage your daily operations
Square Point of Sale made managing my daily sales items sold reporting, sales-tax, tips, and credit card sales a very easy task. Monthly and annual reports were also easy to review which mad tax reporting easier.
Pros
I like the option of the menu where you can have specific items on the screen rather than having to scroll through a list. Also using the options worked great for my coffee shop. I could press the Latte button, and had all the options including add-on prices automatically add without having to add up the cost and then enter the price.
Cons
I would like the option of more, but smaller buttons on the main menu. I had discount buttons also programmed (teacher’s and police) because I was near a school and gave teachers a 10% discount, and also gave uniformed police and firefighters a 30% discount, which took two product items off the main menu.

It's great for home service and field work when you need payment at the site.
Pros
Ability to offer CC on-site, invoice payment on clients on via phone, tablet, or computer, and auto reminders of upcoming payments. ALso, I like the software integration with my Field Route Optimizer.
Cons
if you accidentally scroll too far up in an invoice, contract, or estimate it auto-refreshes and deletes everything you just did.

Pros

Cons

Stopped Charging
Pros
It is quite handy and fast, but then it
Cons
I have a small business. I bought the square reader machine last year for around $50, in Feb 2023. After almost one year and a half, the machine does not charge and I have to keep it connected to electricity all the time. This will cost me more than its price, and if I buy it again, I will have to pay $65. It looks like I have to purchase it again, but not happy that the machine stops working properly in less than two years.

Easy POS for Small Business management
I've had a great experience with Square POS. The square reader has made mobile payments a breeze and the receipts are very clear to read.
Pros
The user-friendly interface and simplicity of the program keep managing a business simple. Easy to create an order/invoice and check out.
Cons
When a new user opens the app for the first time I would recommend a programmed tour of its features. It can all be overwhelming at first.

Like They Say-It's Hip to be Square
For now, we have been extremely happy with our experience with Square. It has proven to be a necessary piece to our business, making things much easier to track and manage.
Pros
We love the user-friendly layout of Square. It was easy to setup and implement straight out of the box with minimal instruction. The more we use it, the more features we find that we love.
Cons
We have found very few cons to using Square, but the biggest one is the fees. While this is a necessary part of doing business, the recent price increase of using Square to accept payments has made our pricing structure difficult to maintain without passing those fees onto our customers.
