Industry focused POS is fantastic

Great experience with eTailPet. We have opened two new locations and the onboarding was seamless.

Pros

eTailPet is functional, easy-to-use, and intuitive. Using an industry-focused POS and inventory management system saves time and money. We switched from Shopify, which worked, but demanded tons of extra time and effort to use.

Cons

eTailPet is still improving. There are a couple small things that could be tweaked to work better for us, but they are not critical.

On its way...

Great to start, normal blips along the way to learn and how to adapt our business to what they offer. They are very open to comments and suggestions.

Pros

Onboarding was easy and converting my existing data. Easy to use and get started.

Cons

Their knowledge base needs to be cleaned up and better easy of finding information. Would like to see a better scheduling system in place for our groomers. No transparency in billing plans. If not using services like scheduling would like to pay less. I know other vendors are paying 20% less than us.

A Company that Promises a lot, but fails horribly.

Started out ok, they kept promising to add our "outside" products so it would show up online. Guess what, they never did, kept just ignoring the request. Our online presence dropped to nil. Their hosting gives "don't trust this site". They will not let you out without paying a year even if you don't want the product. If you are a business wanting to be online and POS, you better have some serious help working this program AND getting out!!

Pros

NOTHING, we have pages of tickets for help, emails from day two trying to get them to help us.

Cons

The entire program only works if your store only stocks what they have access to. They build their database off of you entering your products in the "universe" world. We asked specifically if our items that our common in pet stores and local people we buy from will be on our website. They said yes, turns out no it will not. It will only appear on the website if you pay money, for certain things, but no guarantee. They also kept our bank information on file. We had not intention of renewing with them after the first year. They took the $4k and said in a voice mail... when I said we are not renewing... Too bad, you didn't tell us (they didn't even contact us and we were not using the system) sucks to be you, no refund, use it if you want or not, we are keeping your money. Even amazon lets you return unwanted products. Go read employee reviews if you don't believe me.

My ETailPet tale

Good
Etails gave us the ability to increase our sales last year and we are happy overall.

Pros

Ease of use.
Teaching someone the system

Cons

I know I pay 20% more than other businesses that use the same services of etails but they pay a one time annual fee. I would like some transparency on billing plans or the option for a one time fee for the year.

Lack of SEO tools or services, for the price I’m paying we should have some reporting tools on hand for our dashboard
The scheduling features are terrible for grooming. Not intuitive, labor intensive setup and poor functionality.

Great POS

Great and always helpful. Troubleshooting is quick.

Pros

They have thought of everything for the pet industry. Their product universe is wonderful

Cons

Time zone difference is a problem at times.

Great System, Great Customer Service

In a sentence: good, with some hiccups, but continuing to improve. The X factor here is the support that we receive from [sensitive content hidden]. He has always been very helpful and has an intimate understanding of the technical elements of the system. He is easy to reach and will spend time with you rolling up his sleeves to dig into a particular problem. [sensitive content hidden] has figured out/troubleshot problems more than he has had to "check with someone else and get back to us". We are lucky to have him in our corner!

Pros

I am in eTail almost daily, running reports on reports. The data I am able to grab has been extremely useful in making strategic finance decisions. It is incredibly detailed but gives lots of options for grouping/different angles to look at transaction level data. eTail has a lot of awesome functionality which is continuously being iterated on which has been incrementally beneficial to RPC

Cons

It can sometimes be a bit choppy with load times, often timing out (reports limits are tight for me). Its inability to speak to QuickBooks can be a challenge from an accounting standpoint and from what I have gathered certain elements such as the inability to go to negative inventory does create inventory tracking discrepancies. This is a bit nuanced but there are some reports that don't have the same data output, so, for example, you have to run each store separately since there is no column which shows that detail. If there is a date output, it will pull in time and creates an added step to scrub that data into a date format that will pivot by day/month/year. It would be great if there were other modifiers in the output that auto populate this date information. There are so many reports that do not show any detail surrounding date.

Bought out by an investment firm

ETailPet has been bought out by Quilt Software, a software investment firm. Firms like this buy software that's considered "Mature" with a userbase, and provide as little service or features as possible to maintain an income flow. They promise a lot, and provide very little. My experience was the worst of any company I have worked with. They promised several features specifically that it was later discovered they did not have. Managers admitted to the misrepresentation, blaming the fact they sell different programs, and agreed to cancel and refund but when I requested it, they refused. They also delayed the cancellation until after the next billing cycle so they could get another months fees out of me.

Pros

They have a decent Astro Integration and a nice catalog of products. But the issues make these benefits worthless

Cons

They do not have integrated printing, you have to print through a print dialog from your browser, its slow and prone to errors. They try to claim this is "Integrated".
They use PAX payment devices that are meant to be behind a counter (Violating the EMV requirements of not handling customers cards.)
They can not handle vendor price files, you have to reformat and layout the data for their importer, and then it can not handle case qtys, multi vendors, or really anything you need for a pet store inventory.
