Handy tool to access network computers

I use this product to access a Workstation when my laptop is not strong enough to open a cad file. It is a fast and easy interface. Through this product I don't need to carry a heavy computer on my backpack.

Pros

It makes it possible to use a strong computer by only carrying a small laptop.

Cons

I mostly use Vismockup and my setting are always resetted when I log out and log in again.

Dedicated VDI - Is a good idea?

Medium overall experience.

Pros

Citrix has the capability to host several applications on your particular account, along with a dedicated VDI (if applies). This allows you to not waste the performance of your computer, and navigate through the different applications using the dedicated resources that the vendor provides. This can be a good idea, or not, depending on how many resources are dedicated to your particular VDI.

Cons

Customer support for sure. If you are running in a rush, and you need to have your issue resolved ATM, forget about it. Citrix customer support (at least based on my experience) take a lot of time to fix something, and several times I had to google, or research about the issue, and fix it by myself. The fact is that, most of the troubleshooting needs to be done from the Citrix IT side, and this can take a while to happen.

Extremely glitchy and heavy

Pros

What I like about this software is the concept of having a virtual desktop and securuty it provides. Execution of the said concept is disappointing. I have nothing more positive to say about citrix as a user.

Cons

Where do I begin?? This is by far the glitchiest and heaviest software I have ever used in my entire life. And this should say something! I've worked for corporations and startups and Im familiar with so many applications and software brands. Citrix in my opinion is the worst! I understand companies use it mostly for security so only employees can access apps and internal network, I get that. But first of all, it's very heavy. While tech requirements for citrix are pretty reasonable in theory, in reality even computers with great memory and fast processors struggle. Once you log in to citrix, it's like you're back to 2000s. Everything is slow and feels heavy. God forbid you double click on an icon by accident, it'll be loading whatever the application you clicked on forever. And then it's gonna give you an error and you'll need to start over. Constant errors and bugs. I'm not kidding when I say that in 3 years I've been using citrix, I didn't have a single day when it worked smoothly. Saving something to your computer and trying to access it is a nightmare because it's two different locations although both virtual. And they don't connect properly. Omg, citrix is a nightmare!! If you're considering citrix for your company, please know that productivity will drop tenfold and spirit as well because when you're irritating with software all day and you need to use it all the time, you're in a bad mood all day, all week, everytime you're at work. Don't use citrix!!

Amazing performance, allows virtualizing OS and Apps. Top for VDI deployments.

-Reduce TCO for IT department.
-App virtualization helps my company to track weekly or monthly sales results and cash flow.

Pros

-It's perfect for business and educations environments, when hardware requirements change every day you can add more memory or space with a few clicks.
-Access anywhere anytime, Citrix Receiver app works on almost every mobile device (tablets, cellphones, etc)
-Companies with remote employees can protect his data using VDI environments. Lawyer's buffet uses this product against government threats to illegally obtain clients data.
-Logs and Reports help IT departments to track issues fast and efficient.
-IT departments support for different hypervisors environments, such as XenServer, Hyper-V, and VMware ESXi.

Cons

-Not available for MAC OS, because of apple restrictions.
-Salesperson sometimes forgets hardware, software and services requirements. Need an experienced partner to develop VDI projects and then deploy it.
-Security products it´s a must-have, sometimes users forget that the cloud it is also vulnerable.

Great virtualization tool and cloud computing

The desktop virtualization tool is great. Our company has several servers and accessing them via Citrix reforces the security recommendations.

Pros

Desktop virtualization, Cloud computing and servers are the strongest assets of Citrix, providing a good security standard. Great end-user experience.

Cons

The logs could be better, which would help on troubleshooting.

In my opinion the best virtualized software available.

Pros

We just deployed the latest version. We can now offer employee's a virtualized experience that matches that of a desktop PC. Installation was straight forward with the help of our consulting partner. employee's said this was the easiest migration they have ever been a part of.

Cons

Latest version requires more servers but not a problem if your servers are Virtualized. We had one issue with Internet explorer skyrocketing the processor but once we made the change for Adobe to open PDF's and not IE this solved the issue.

The department was installing a work productivity and document management solution.

Pros

We had a site license for the Cirtix Desktop and had purchased maintenance and upgrade protection sogoing to the XenDesktop solution was easy. We implemented a server based access to each of the new programs and all 20 users had the same experience of ease of access. The MS office programs integrated smoothly as well. The local resource demand was minimal so we were able to keep a local mirrored data file that only strengthened our data protection efforts.

Cons

The communication software for the enterprise is Apache. We invoked LDAP thinking it would uniformly connect. We were wrong, We tried several workarounds even going so far as to use the POP3 boxes from the MS Outlook readers. The final connections were a hodgepodge of Apache nataive e-mail containers, LDAP addresses and MS POP3 boxes on some of the PCs. Citrix support was able to isolate the problem with the main Apache program. We did identify a training need and in year three it was all working the way intended. Fortunately no one out of the department was aware of our very inelegant solution.

Ideal for smart working

Fast, easy and complete. Apps and desktops can be reached via PC, smartphone/tablets, with or without agent installed (HTML5 compatible).

Pros

It is very flexible and let you decide which apps can be launched by an end user. APP layering is a powerful tool that automates the distribution and creation of the infrastructure.

Cons

It is a little bit expensive, but when compared to the competition, it is the most complete solution ever.

Companies are paying Citrix to debug their software

Fortunately my setup is not as complex so my issues are minimal but my peers in the industry have no shortage of horror stories for me to endure.

Pros

There’s not much to like about this software. It’s a nightmare to troubleshoot since there is no error handling. The product’s documentation is always behind. Citrix rebranded all of their products in hopes that perception would change. It’s just the same crap with a new name.

Cons

Insanely expensive (look at Ericom instead. Best bang for your buck and better designed product overall). Support is not so good. Everything Citrix tries to sell you, the NetScaler will be shoved down your throat.

Access your apps from anywhere

We have users that want to be able to use MS office applications on their i-pad or other tablets. With XenDesktop we are able to give them access to these applications on almost any device with a web browser. We are also able to use enterprise applications shared from one location without having to install the applications on each users computer, making upgrades much easier and faster. We just install the application on the server and it is ready to go to all of our client computers.

Pros

XenDesktop is the best remote desktop software we have been able to find. It seamlessly presents your applications on any other device from remote locations and the end user cannot even tell that it is a remote program that they are using.

Cons

It was a little difficult to setup but with the help of our software vendor we were able to get it done. The licensing can be a little expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Using XenDesktop in my daily work

Pros

Very fast and powerful VDI solution, probably the most advanced on market. XenDesktop allows to avoid managing dozens of enterprise PCs and personal user devices, by putting enevrything you need to virtual desktop.

Cons

Azure version of XenDesktop is just regular on-prem edition deployed to IaaS virtual machines. Not using all possible features of Azure

A simplified technology world!

Its easy to use, it saves you a lot of money, time, space and maintenance.

Perfect for multitasking schedules.

Pros

This is such a great VM software. By having the right software you are able to manage and process data even faster. The great qualities of this are: You have a powerful virtual machine to connect to from everywhere, anytime. By reducing the physical cost and maintenance you save a lot money, space and time. It is safe and any user you provide with access to it can easily connect to the virtual machine and do their job anytime.

Cons

Sometimes its a bit slow. But it TOTALLY will depend on the network traffic you are having. On the other hand when the network is working fine, you have the world right on your hands.

This Software is a Great One!

My overall experience with this software is very nice. I have been using it for more than five years and I am satisfied with its features and functionality. I am confident that my files inside this software are secured and well-maintained.

Pros

What I like the most about this software is that it is user-friendly and I know that the virtual environment where my files for work are saved and accessed is secured.

Cons

What I think is the room for improvement is the technical issue where it sometimes closes on its own and the files are not auto-saved.

Truly The Best Virtual App/Desktop Available

I have realized that one of the best benefits of Citrix is that you can open a virtual desktop anywhere as long as you are using a secure network.

Pros

The most that I like most about Citrix is that it is really easy to use, there is no hassle to it as long as you pay attention to what you are supposed to be doing!

Cons

To be honest, there is nothing I can complain about Citrix. Integration to my jobs' software was real easy and smooth.

Nice software, I've had good times with it

Pros

It's fast to set up and make it work in short time. It's fast, even with poor connections. It's also more reliable than terminal server, in my opinion.

Cons

The only con I can write of is about printers, I wasn't able to make them work (2 of them, quite old, but I hoped they would work)

I am a nursing instructor and the clinical site I take students to uses Citrix.

None really

Pros

I like that the screens are in color. Makes it easier to find the information you need because it is color coded. Also things ate laid out in a way that it is easy to show students a patients information.

Cons

Printing out the medication sheets is a bit cumbersome. Too much is on the sheets. I am not able to print just the medications. When I print them out it has the treatment orders on the sheets too making a bit too busy especially when teaching students.
