AdvancedMD, a Ferrari running on Volkswagen beetle tires.
My experience is very positive when using their telehealth (we are 100% telehealth) function, talking to the patient with the patients' depression and anxiety ratings displayed on screen, color coded, using the templates I built for our use-cases. Then when I go to the prescription function, if there are CIIs, things get frustrating. I now prepare the CIIs to send the day before, but that takes 15 to 30 minutes per day that I'd rather spend doing something else.
Pros
AdvancedMD modules do what they were designed to do, and they do it in an efficient and well-designed flow. I had to have 5 third-party products integrated through the API of my last EHR to do what AdvancedMD does (1. send out and receive rating scales and display the results in the appointment, 2. conduct Zoom appointments, 3. have documents e-signed, 4. collect fees within the portal, 5. send out patient satisfaction surveys after our appointments and push the positive reviews to the internet). Other features of AdvancedMD includes the ability to create a treatment Team that can include outside providers, to whom notes can be automatically faxed, which is very useful (our best marketing should be our work). It also automatically notifies patients via text when prescriptions have been sent. The template system is very powerful. It includes the ability to create calculation fields. The final note uses MS Word merge fields, so in designing your final note you can pretty much do anything that MS Word can do. I designed our final note in MS Word to include the results of the depression and anxiety ratings scales in a vertical table on the left 25% or so of the page with color-coding by value of the answers against a faint background color from our logo color pallet. AdvancedMD is criticized for "hidden fees", but these are simply the costs of the modules one wants to have and use in one's iteration of AdvancedMD. The advantage of paying for the feature is that it works, and it works well.
Cons
Inexplicably for such a well thought-out and designed piece of software, AdvancedMD uses DrFirst to validate e-prescribing of scheduled medications. The EPCS function of DrFirst requires that one select each medication to be sent (Why? We selected the medications to send already...click, click, click). Then you have to enter a unique password (Why? We've signed into AdvancedMD already), and then you have to enter a 6 digit code from SymanticVIP (whatever) that expires every 30 seconds (Seriously?) tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. My previous EHR, which was designed to minimize engineering costs and was very inefficient, used ID.me on the phone to authenticate sending scheduled meds. Select the meds, hit send, enter the EHR password with one click because the EHR remembered it, and on the phone a column popped up, tap it, and done. Oh, how I miss those days. AdvancedMD also does not have a duplication function for prescriptions, so if you want to send 3 copies of a CII, you have to create each one, one at a time. Yes, once sent you can use the Send w/edit function to resend them, but that brings up 3 instances to resend into which you have to enter the fill date one prescription at a time. My previous EHR entered fill dates automatically with their duplicate function. Overall, I'm glad I changed from my previous EHR to AdvancedMD, but the DrFirst-based prescribing of scheduled medications creates pain every time I use it, which is many times each day.

AdvancedMD EHR
Pros
The thing that I appreciate the most about AMD is that if / when I cannot find an answer to an issue that I am facing through the extensive library of training and support videos and articles, the support desk is just a phone call away and are always quick to resolve my issues.
Cons
The biggest con that I face with the software is the inability as an administrator to delete certain things. Our clinical staff do not always pay attention to details, and sometimes things happen that need to be deleted.

Advanced MD EHR Easy to Use
Over the last 17 years Advanced MD EHR system has become much more user friendly and easier to use. Their engineers are constantly working on the EHR to make a better user experience from the physician, front office staff and for the billing company.
Pros
Easy to use and great support from Advanced MD. Once the templates are set up then it is easy for the physician to complete their documentation quicker. Easy to print notes and medical records
Cons
The template set up takes sometime to complete and sometimes it can be cumbersome to navigate, however they are making improvements all the time. Over the last 17 years their EHR system has become much more user friendly.

Solid System
Overall, AdvancedMD is a solid software. They have a ways to go to catch up with current end user expectations to make the experience better, but they are dedicated to making enhancements.
Pros
AdvancedMD's ability to customize your templates is very good. You don't have to submit changes you'd like to implement to their development team to get them done; with the right permissions you're able to go in and make any changes you need to and they are available immediately. It does however take quite a bit of practice and patience to learn how to fully customize word merge templates. Their customer service is pretty helpful and readily available. Some of the customer service reps are really dedicated to finding solutions and are willing to try any and everything to help you find it, while others are not. Their account managers are really helpful and truly do advocate for what's best for their customers.
Cons
As much as AdvancedMD is dedicated to enhancing their system, there are still some features that either need enhancing or don't exist, which for where we are in technology, could leave AdvancedMD lacking. For one, there isn't any marketing or referral data tracking in their Analytics feature. The customer survey isn't customizeable. Some essential features for telehealth are not there, for example an ask to mute feature. The connectivity for the telehealth feature could be better as well - we have lots of issues with patients and providers connecting to and maintaining their signal. If you don't have EDI agreements for electronic remittance, posting insurance payments is a very slow and tedious process with long wait times to navigate between fields. The online scheduling isn't truly integrated into their scheduling system. You have to create blocks and holds in order to populate the provider availability instead of it being able to see what's available based on the appointments that are already scheduled.

AdvancedMD is an excellent well integrated PM/EMR
I have been happy with Advanced MD and it helps me run my solo medical practice efficiently.
Pros
I have been using AdvanceMD for 6 years now. It is well integrated and has all of the software that I need in running my solo medical practice. It contains PM, Reporting, Messaging, Faxing, Patient Portal, EMR and E-prescribing. It is very customizable.
Cons
It comes with a library of templates for the EMR but creating your own from scratch can be time consuming. Creating output of finished notes for these templates can also be difficult, but once it is set up it continues to work well.

New User for multiple clinics
We have installed this for a number of clinics in the last several months with more to come. After the normal hurdles at the start we are starting to really fly and our clients are very happy.
Pros
Without question the people and support from the company. The software is very good as well but without the backend support is just another piece of softare.
Cons
A little confusing learning the AdvancedMD language. Differences in terminology was a short term stumbling block. Once that was cleared up all is great.

AMD Review
We are pleased overall and refer as many people as we can to it.
Pros
It is very customizable. The ability to create your own templates and documents.
Cons
Setup is a challenge. Many of our clients are frustrated with AMD and think it stinks simply because they have setup issues with preferences, templates, etc. Once fixed, they love it.

Too unreliable and pricey
The support is good from time to time. There are plenty of times I've spent 2+ hours on the phone with support without a resolution. The support staff is inconsistent. They would rather keep you on the phone for hours than ask a supervisor for help. I've had issues with the scheduler where we collect payment which has forced us to move to another system. It's totally inconvenienced our practice and messed up workflow when their system goes down for long periods of time. I've had issues with e-prescribing on multiple occasions.
Pros
The EHR is fine itself. It has plenty of features.
Cons
The product is very expensive and unreliable. It is very glitchy and not the most user-friendly for our therapists. We've gotten several complaints from them. The software has a lot of potential but there are too many little nuances that make it inefficient and difficult to use. Currently, my schedule is down and this is how we operate and collect copayments. Unacceptable for it to be down for extended periods of time like this without proper notice or warning. We rely on this software to run our practice.

Very Displeased
Poor customer service, very limited features.
Pros
Once you learn how to navigate the system it is fairly straight forward. Integrating billing features into the chart is fairly easy.
Cons
Where to start... Not only is AdvancedMD not intuitive, it is plagued with glitches and system failures. The Dashboard and rooming feature rarely works for most of the staff. The e-scribing is terrible. Chart notes are cumbersome and become huge without essential integrations. Auto population of information is elusive and only goes so far (eg. a chart summary does not auto-populate with a patient's BMI from that day. It doesn't matter how good you are at programming and customizing templates, a lot of necessary features are not available (you learn this after spending hours on the phone with customer support.)

Over-engineered, Underwhelming
Our overall experience has been pretty terrible. Though there are very friendly staff on occasion who try really hard to solve our issues, the training/implementation was criminally subpar and the bait and switch really set our practice back by about a year in terms of growth. We will never be able to get that time back, unfortunately, and are relieved to have moved forward with a company that has visited us onsite and is doing the legwork of tailoring their EHR to our needs.
Pros
More robust billing features than other EMRs; the ability to charge credit cards on file at the end of the day.
Cons
Pop ups; nothing is intuitive at all; horrific training/implementation experience; literally no discovery was completed and our demo key was an ObGyn clinic setup when we are a counseling/psychiatric practice; bait and switch with about 50% of the promised features costing a LOT extra if you actually want meaningful reports; reports that are included in regular subscription are absolutely useless; incredibly glitchy- our prescribers cannot e-prescribe on an almost-weekly basis and it requires one of them to cancel patients to make the call to AMD since only someone with prescribing abilities is able to talk to the support staff and show them what is happening; correcting wrong copays takes literally hours to do since AMD overcomplicates the process for updating this with an ERA. This system really requires that you have the infrastructure of about 10-20 admin support staff to manage all the features. It is not ideal for a behavioral health practice at all. We are walking away after just under 12 months and have switched to a new EHR that is a fraction of the price but designed for behavioral health. Our aging report quadrupled since being with AMD.

Like the PM/EHR (even with pop-up ads), avoid Billing Service.
Pros
There is more functionality built into the reporting side than we will ever use. We're a small practice (1 provider) and in terms of the software (PM and EHR), it exceeds our needs in functionality in almost every way. The user interface is a bit cumbersome (and now includes pop-up medication advertising, which is annoying...) in our setting (Family Practice), but not too complicated. The system up-time has been impressive. In the last year, I don't recall more than 2 brief interruptions, the longest of which was about 1/2 of a day and corrected by the next AM when we returned to work.
Cons
There are a couple of significant downsides to Advanced MD, particularly the Billing portion of our service. Keep these things in mind if you're a small practice looking for a comprehensive software package (PM/EHR/Billing): Advanced MD is expensive relative to other comprehensive packages out there. I called to ask for a reduction, and was told that they would like to raise the rate to 9% because our monthly net income was lower than the average. They didn't raise it, but it set us out to explore other vendors. Not one competitor has quoted us over 6% for the same services. And not every vendor has a monthly minimum. We also receive pop-up medication advertisements in our patient EHR. Advertisements in our patient charts for medications... I called tech support asking about the ads shortly after they started and was told, "We can't remove them, they're part of the software." ]It seems surprising to see ads pushed in the software. Aside from the price and pushed ads, the software works well. The billing service, not so much. We had been using Advanced MD for over 1 year before we were given a person to contact for issues related to our service. They gave us an Account Manager a little over a month ago. In general, if you can deal with the forced advertisements within an expensive software package, don't require assistance or guidance aside from internet videos, you will do well with Advanced MD software. The same can't be said for the billing service, but for most practices, I would imagine that is a separate issue and expense. We chose to bundle and it is evaluated as such. If you just stick to the PM/EHR, even at the price, I think it is a decent software package.

Confusion on Steroids
There is no technical support at night when the system has been changed or it has severe bugs, usually after an update. All suggestions have to go into a blog and there is no way to discuss the implications and needs with the designers. When tech support did get involved, frequently they did not know how to solve a problem.
Pros
The note design feature is robust and easy to use but the fields are very limited in function and size.
Cons
The system is very laggy with unreasonable delays and frequent server failures. The system will frequently shut all open windows down and give you an internal error. The prescription system is NOT friendly for behavioral health and our unique needs. There is no way to just change a dose on a medication, the entire drug has to be searched for again. The visible information is confusing and does not agree between the three medication access areas. It is impossible to delete a prescription that you write and sign but do not print or send. Auto-expire is confusing as it does not send the information to the pharmacy. You cannot change all of the prescription pharmacies at one time, you have to go into each one and change the pharmacy if the patient wants to go somewhere else. You cannot split a 90 day prescription into three 30 day prescriptions such as controlled substances when the insurance company only pays for 30 days at a time. You have to create three separate prescriptions. They will update the system in the middle of the week and it will be buggy and cause you to shut down operations. This is only the start of all of the issues I have experienced.

Expensive and Complicated
Pros
It does the job if you figure it all out and everyone else can figure it out
Cons
This was probably one of my least favourite software programs ever! It's complicated, way more complicated than it needs to be. There's a learning curve for sure. I didn't find the training to be helpful. We switched from this quickly.

Do not rrecommend
Pros
Templates are good. there is not much good to talk about. Any thing good is neutralized by amount of problems.
Cons
I am a physician that keep loosing my nosed when my medical assistant or front office go in to chart at same time save the chart before me. It also happens when some scans a documents and faxes a prescription on my behalf.
I have the RCM contract. EHR is Ok to use.. But they have multiple unscheduled maintenance during night time. Scheduled maintenance is only for 15 minutes and is very occasional. Unscheduled maintenance is very common and last hours. When you call them they make lot of excuses.
Billers are inexperienced. Lack knowledge of local insurance and Medicaid requirement. I have complained to them multiple times that they cannot bill medicaid clients for unpaid balances but still they keep mailing them statements. It is more than a year and they continue to bill my Medicaid patients.
Very bad on follow up after filing claims. My claims have gone past 95 days filing deadline without any update from advanced. You have to open a case with concerns that there is no claim on file with insurance and it already past filing dead line. Then they will file the claim and claim gets denied. Then we open case again to request them to appeals. They file the appeal and appeal gets denied and you lost your money.
They also do not apply payment correctly and you request them to fix the errors , they will not respond.
AdvancedMd does not take responsibility for claims being denied for going past deadlines. If you complain they do not respond to your emails.

Unethical Organization
Absolutely awful! Unethical, Unprofessional, and Unwilling to accept responsibility.
Pros
We were never able to utilize the software. We received inaccurate information during the contracting process; then discovered all the questions we asked ahead of time and had answered, we answered incorrectly.
Cons
Avoid this company like the plague. Despite potentially having much higher ratings; our experience with this company has been awful. We asked the right questions; but received the wrong information. This was sadly not identified until after the contract was written. These folks are hands off and provide no assistance. The moment we discovered the numerous issues and reported them (ahead of our scheduled date of implementation), we waited over 30 days for an answer. The long awaited answer was “tough”. “Our finance team decided that since a contract was signed, we will require 90 days of payments to allow you out of a contract”.
We never implemented the system, never activated a single employee or provider, and are unable to utilize the software. However, we will be paying for 3 months of service for absolutely no benefit. We only identified 1 single ethical employee in the entire organization. They even debited our account a month ahead of the agreed term. Don’t waste your time. Their are many other SaaS providers available whom are much less expensive, much more helpful, much more ethical, and will aid in the successful operation of your practice/clinic!

Terrible Customer Service
Pros
Multiple screens available at one time is helpful. More functional PM than Health Fusion, but that's not saying a lot.
Cons
Customer Support is TERRIBLE! We were conned into believing that we would be fast tracked and set-up within two weeks. We had a lot of issues with getting Blue Cross Blue Shield set-up, and then e-remittance suddenly stopped after two months. This issues has still not been resolved 5 months later, and ADP keeps trying to send up to BCBS who says everything is fine on their end and that it's ADP's issue. WORSE, it's been 7 months and we are still not getting paid for Medicaid. We have called ADP multiple times, as well as Medicaid, and just today a Medicaid Rep took 5 minutes and figured out that our taxonomy code was listed in the box where our TPI was supposed to be.
We called ADP, and they tried to tell us it was our fault despite the fact that we do not enter that info -- they do. They then gave us a run around saying that they only put in standard data, but extra stuff is our responsibility. What?!?! How are we supposed to know that when they don't tell us, and how is putting in a TPI not part of standard date? ADP made it appear that all we had to do was fill out our information, send it to them, and they would handle everything else.
We have still yet to hear a response from our direct rep after 2 weeks. I forwarded the emails to customer service 3 days ago, and have yet to hear from them.
My office manager called asked to speak with a supervisor, and the customer service rep said, "What are you planning to get out of that?" I don't know. An apology? Most of the reps have been just as rude when we call. You would think the system would flag something when every single Medicaid claim was denied. Or note that we've been calling and emailing since February.
I use Practice Fusion for my EHR, and their customer service is much better despite being FREE! I wish they had a PM side, too, so we wouldn't have to deal with ADP, anymore. There's always Kareo, I guess.

Overall good billing software program
I am extremely disappointed in Advanced MD customer service. I have been using the product for about 8 years. They market the product as costing less than provider which is not accurate. I have 3 providers in my office and I have to pay /month. They admit to their mistakes in the software codes, but refuse to work with their clients when Advanced MD's mistakes cause significant harm to a practice.
Pros
It will find errors on claims prior to submitting them to insurance carriers. It allows for macro billing which saves data entry time
Cons
There are too many "add on modules" that you must purchase in order to get the functionality out of the program. There customer support is below average. We purchased an add on module that wasn't functioning properly. We noticed this 1 week after purchasing the module and made Advanced MD aware of the errors. It took them about 5 weeks to shut the program down and it caused financial harm to my practice and also upset many patients. The software was texting/emailing patients up to 16 times in one day. It was a significant error in the software code and Advanced MD refused to act quickly to shut down the module. In addition, Advanced MD continued to charge me monthly for the module even though it wasn't working correctly. They refuse to provide a solution.

Occupational Therapists DO NOT USE
AFTER I signed a one year contract, my Implementation Trainer revealed she was a specialist in mental health. There was NO specialist in THERAPY. There were NO Occupational Therapy templates I could modify. I was told I could PAY MORE for someone else in another department to create all the templates I was promised and shown. The sales manager talked with me after several weeks and AGREED they could not and did not meet my needs. However, there has been ZERO communication after that. No return calls, no return emails. I continue to be charged monthly for a very expensive service I can not access. The unprofessional operation of such a large company is surprising and unethical. It is a breach if contract-yet I have not been released. The negative impact on my start-up company had been DEVASTATING, yet I can not get a response. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ADVANCED MD unless you are well established and not Occupational Therapy. I don't trust anything they say, as there is no follow up or consistently.
Pros
Has everything for most medical practices. Integrated billing.
Cons
The software is great for software technicians and highly skilled medical office staff. However, it is NOT good for therapists. I was promised software that would have OT templates I could modify to meet my needs. I was shown examples of this. I was given a sob story of how they would hold my hand through the whole process. Unfortunately, the really was extremely different! There was no software to meet my needs. The creation of forms requires a degree in coding.
